Dallas will surprise you. There are more places than you think that make you stop, and just appreciate where you are. There is romance in the air all around the city, that makes it perfect for people planning a wedding, honeymoon or a romantic getaway.. Many people think of Dallas as part of the west, but the truth is Dallas is part of the south. There are wonderful mansions in town that will take you back to a simpler time. And the neat part is that many of them are open for you to use as you think about getting married and starting the next phase of your life.

Weddings and Romance

If you are looking for a romantic spot to start out your married life then Dallas has many choices. Most of the major hotels in Dallas can help with your wedding planning and provide you with a location for both a wedding and a reception. Some of them in the downtown/Upton area include The Joule, the Intercontinental, the Sheraton, the Stoneleigh, the Westin, W Hotel, the Fairmont Hotel, Hotel ZaZa and the Adolphus Hotel. Some other interesting locations in the Dallas area are below.

Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is 66-acres of gardens on the shore of White Rock Lake. The Dallas Arboretum was created by the combination of two estates. The mansions are still on the property and are available for weddings. There are also a number of locations in the gardens that are suitable for weddings and receptions.

Southfork Ranch

Remember that 70's show Dallas? Well the ranch house where JR and Sue Ellen Ewing lived is located north of Dallas. Yes, there really is a Southfork Ranch and you can get married there. The Ewing mansion and the surrounding lawns can provide with a wonderful location for your own Texas-style wedding.

Maple Manor

If you are looking for something a little smaller then perhaps the Maple Manor Hotel in the Uptown neighborhood will suit you. The Victorian style building was built in 1898. It has an outdoor walled garden with waterfalls and a descending staircase. French doors open into a reception area. Maple Manor also has five suites on the second floor.

Belo Mansion

The Belo Mansion is located in the Arts District section of Dallas. Originally built for the founder of the Dallas Morning News in the late 1800's, the Belo Mansion has been restored and expanded. It has some special touches such as stately columns, a grand carriage entrance and winding staircase. If you need more space, the adjacent Pavilion provides even more room for your guests.

Arlington Hall in Lee Park

Arlington Hall is a two-thirds scale replica of Robert E. Lee's mansion that is now part of Arlington National Cemetery. It was built in 1939 and restored in 2002. Arlington Hall sits in Lee Park, which is along Turtle Creek. Arlington Hall ahs two terraces and a stately portico that provide a smooth transition to the outside lawns that surround the hall.

Mansion on Turtle Creek

Nearby, also near Turtle Creek sits the Mansion on Turtle Creek. Originally the home of oil and cotton baron Sheppard W. King, the Mansion on Turtle Creek has been expanded over the years. But it hasn't lost its charm and intimacy. It sits on 4.3 acres of land. When you enter the Mansion on Turtle Creek, you'll first enter 32-foot high marble rotunda, just one of the many impressive parts of this facility. The Mansion on Turtle Creek however is best known for its service and the award winning cuisine in its restaurant.

Aldredge House

Aldredge House actually started out as a gift to a bride. William J. Lewis, a prominent banker, built the house for his 20-year old debutant bride, Wille Newbury. The 17-room mansion is located along Swiss Avenue in the Lakewood neighborhood of Dallas. It is surrounded by other historic homes. The terrace and the gardens provide outdoor options for any ceremony.

The Corinthian

This early 20th century home was converted into a bed and breakfast facility in 2001 when it underwent extensive renovations. The name comes from the Corinthian columns across the front porch. The parlor and other rooms on the first floor provide a formal setting for any wedding or reception. The Corinthian is located along Junius Street in the Lakewood neighborhood.

Alexander Mansion in Garland

The Alexander Mansion was built specially to host weddings. The facility is located north and east of Dallas in suburban Garland. It's an all in one place. They handle everything for you from planning to the bouquet toss. There is a long winging staircase that lines up with the middle of the room where they hold the wedding. That way the bride gets to make a really grand entrance. If you have a lot of unusual ideas, this might not be the place for you, but if you want something very traditional without having to make a lot of decisions this might be it.

Hickory Street Annex

If you are looking for an eclectic space for your wedding, the Hickory Street Annex might be the place. The Hickory Street Annex is a former Gulf Oil distribution depot. Built originally in 1921, it has been transformed into a space used by multiple small businesses. It also has a 6500 square foot event space that can be used for weddings or other events. The brick warehouse style buildings provide a solid backdrop.

Crow Collection of Asian Art

The Crow Collection of Asian Art facility in the arts district is another break the mold location for your wedding. Both the museum galleries, the gardens and the Trammell Crow Center plaza are available. The Crow Collection of Asian Art is located in the Arts District to the north and west of downtown. One note of interest, the Crowe Collection provides one free use of it's facility to those who donate at least $2,500. That could mean a tax deduction. Just an idea.

Popping the Question

Look for a romantic place to pop the question, or maybe just to hang out, then you might want to consider Reunion Tower. This 560-foot tall tower has a restaurant at the top that revolves. Every 55 minutes you circle the tower. The observation deck below the restaurant does not rotate, but you can walk around for a grand view of the Texas landscape. The Arboretum and Botanical Garden on White Rock Lake has 66-acres of gardens. Picnicking is allowed on the grounds. So grab a blanket and a basket and find a place to sit and watch the sunset with your love.
